We envision CMET to be a vibrant agent for continuous expansion of collaborative alliances among USC and affiliated faculty in pursuit of the stated goals. The initial foundation of research activity will be composed of the following projects:
Model-enabled physiomarkers for improved diagnosis of early stage Alzheimer’s Disease (PI: V.Z. Marmarelis in collaboration with Dr. Helena Chui, Chair of Neurology and Director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the USC Keck School of Medicine).
Model-based neurotechnology platforms of adaptive closed-loop DBS for treatment of neurological disorders (PI: V.Z. Marmarelis in collaboration with M. Liker and E. Meng).
Model-enabled physiomarkers for improved diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus (Co-PIs: D.Z. D’Argenio and V.Z. Marmarelis).
Model-based prognosis of cancer development and new treatments (PI: D.Z. D’Argenio).
Model-based diagnosis of sleep-related cardiorespiratory disorders and sickle-cell anemia (PI: M.C. Khoo in collaboration with Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles).
Existing collaborations between T.W. Berger and V.Z. Marmarelis in the model-based study of cognitive neuroprostheses for memory disorders will be the foundation for a close relation between CMET and the Center for Neural Engineering that is led by T.W. Berger.
